Clark and Sutherland Ltd are currently underway with a large project spread over 3 of Diageos malting facilities to ensure compliance with the DSEAR (Dangerous substances and explosive atmospheres regulations) This project has invloved site assessments to determine explosion risk and the equipment protection required. Components installed include - Explosion rupture panels, explosion flamequenchers, explosion isolation valves in dust extraction systems and product plugs in screw conveyors to name a few. Installing these to existing equipment has required the manufacture of transition ducts to accomodate them, all of which have been manufactured in house.
Clark and Sutherland Ltd were contracted to design, supply and install a complete mechanical dust handling system in replacment of a lean phase system. The project was completed during a very tight shutdown in which a large number of contractors were working in tandem with us. Alongside this project we also installed a new despatch dresser along with discharge handling equipment and associated chutework. All new equipment was in compliance with ATEX and fitted with appropriate explosion relief equipment.
Clark and Sutherland ltd designed, manufactured and supplied this dust cyclone to a local joiners workshop for collecting sawdust and bagging it off from the extraction system. The piping route was re configured to accomodate the cyclone and all parts were manufactured in house.
Clark and Sutherland Ltd designed, manufactured and supplied a mobile seed dressing trailer. All components including the dresser itself were designed, manufactured and installed by clark and sutherland ltd in house by our team of experienced design engineers and mechanical fitters. Scotgrain run a fleet of 3 of these dressers and this is the most recent replacement.
Whyte & Mackay Ltd contracted Clark and Sutherland to design, manufacture, supply and install a complete malt intake, de stoning, weighing and milling system. To accomodate all the equipment we manufactured and installed a full mill tower which was set into the existing mill tower building. From project kick off to commissioning and snagging, Clark and Sutherland Ltd were the principal contractor. This involved having a project engineer on site at all times to ensure appropriate control of all activities. We assumed the role of permit issuer and all day to day co ordination meetings were conducted by a C&S team representative. The project was commissioned successfully and on time.
Clark and sutherland Ltd were contracted by Diageo Scotland Ltd to design, manufacture and supply a full malt handling system from point of intake through to weighing, de stoning and terminating above the mill. Utilising the very maximum of the space we had we installed a clark and sutherland swivel intake feeding into an double bend en-masse elevayor penetrating through the wall onto new steelwork then feeding into further malt handling equipment, all of which was supplied and installed by us.
Clark and Sutherland Ltd were contracted to design, supply and install a complete cement / sand intake, storage and bagging off facility all enclosed in a portal frame building. For the duration of the project Clark and sutherland were principal contractor ensuring all contractors conductied their day to day business safely and efficiently.
A new Malt intake and malt transfer system along with new access gantrys was supplied and installed by Clark and Sutherland Ltd. The new system provides site with a new up rated intake system allowing them to intake quicker and all equipment was installed "above ground" thus creating a hygenic environment. All platforms supplied were certified in accordance with BS EN 1090 Exc 2.

Design, supply and installation of a full Barley intake, drying, storage and discharging system alongside a full Malt intake, storage and discharging system for outloading and delivering to the distillery by tractor and trailer.
The project consisted of the erection of four new silos and one bulk out loading silo at the existing grain storage facility together with all associated grain moving equipment and access walkways at high level linking into existing. In tandem with this project a Cimbria AG16 continuous flow barley drier was supplied and installed on site. The heat source for the drier comes from burning the dust that is extracted from the barley during cleaning and prior to drying allowing site to save significant amounts on fuel bills.
